Statement by Public Advocate Gotbaum on Iowa Supreme Court Ruling on Marriage Equality
Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum said, "As a long-time proponent of marriage equality, I welcome today’s ruling by the Iowa Supreme Court that struck down a state law banning same-sex marriage. Unfortunately, New York continues to lag behind in providing equal rights to all. The time has come for New York State to move forward, and now, with the full support from both of our U.S. Senators and Mayor Bloomberg, I urge the legislature to do the right thing and make marriage equality a reality in New York."
