Statement by Public Advocate Gotbaum on Census Numbers on Poverty
“Today's census numbers on poverty should be a wake-up call for this administration. Since Mayor Bloomberg took office, the number of New Yorkers living in poverty increased by 55,375, including about 30,000 more seniors. After almost six years, it is past time the city make good on its promise to lift New Yorkers out of poverty. This must include efforts to help New York’s seniors – an often underserved population.”
