Blowing the Whistle on Misconduct
If you are aware of conduct that appears to violate criminal laws, report it.

Is something rotten at MTA New York City Transit? Do you have information about improper or illegal acts? Contact the MTA Inspector General; your report is confidential.

If you learn of misconduct in a City agency, you may complain to the Inspector General of that agency or to the City Department of Investigation (DOI). If you are aware of conduct that appears to violate criminal laws, you can report it to DOI, the District Attorney's Office, or the U.S. Attorney (if it involves a Federal crime). If you work for a mayoral agency and are disciplined for reporting misconduct to DOI or another elected City official, you are protected by the whistleblower law. Mayoral employees may report retaliation to DOI, which is required to investigate and notify the agency of its findings. DOI does not, however, have the power to reverse the disciplinary action on its own.

Evading taxes is against the law. If you have information about an individual or business that avoids paying taxes, call the City's Tax Evasion Hotline.
