Complaints About the Police

If you believe an officer has used excessive force, abused his or her authority, or used offensive language or behaved rudely, you can ask the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) to investigate.

Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB)
The New York Police protect the safety and well-being of New Yorkers. On occasion, however, officers abuse their power. If you believe an officer has used excessive force, abused his or her authority, or used offensive language or behaved rudely, you can ask the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) to investigate. The CCRB, an independent agency that operates separately from the Police Department, investigates allegations of misconduct by police officers. The Board is made up of 13 civilians appointed by the Mayor, City Council and the Police Commissioner. You can obtain complaint forms from your local precinct or any other police facility or from the CCRB office.
