Fire Safety
If the air smells nothing like roses, or the water starts to taste like wine, call the Department of Environmental Protection's Helpline. DEP addresses issues related to air, water and noise pollution, as well as asbestos and other hazardous materials. When you call, be prepared to give the exact location and nature of the pollution, the name of the polluter, and any other details that may be relevant. Right after storms or during extreme weather conditions, you may have to wait for a Helpline operator. Free-flowing or leaky fire hydrants can reduce the water pressure available to fight fires. Call the Department of Environmental Protection to make a report.
