Garbage

What to do if you have information about illegal dumping, recycling, ice or removal of dead animals, last week's garbage is still sitting in the street, or an empty lot looks like a junkyard.

Sanitation Action Center
If last week's garbage is still sitting in the street, an empty lot looks like a junkyard or somebody left a hulking car wreck down the block, call the Sanitation Action Center. You can also call this number if you have information about illegal dumping, recycling, ice or removal of dead animals. Have ready information like the location, license plate number and description of a vehicle doing the dumping. Be prepared to wait several minutes for an operator, especially if there has recently been a big storm.

Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7pm
Call 311

Trade Waste Commission
The City hauls only residential refuse. All private businesses must arrange for and pay for their garbage to be carted away. For information or to complain about private carters, call the New York City Trade Waste Commission.
