Contact Notification Assistance Program (C-NAP)
The Department of Health's Bureau of STDs offers assistance to people with AIDS and HIV in notifying sex partners and needle-sharing contacts of the possible risk. The service is known as the Contact Notification Assistance Program (C-NAP). Callers remain anonymous, and only at the caller's request will counselors notify partners and contacts. The names that are given for notification remain confidential. Note that this policy differs from that of health professionals, like doctors and nurses, who are required to report the names of HIV infected individuals and any of their known partners.
