Hunger Resources for the Elderly

Food and Hunger Hotline
The Food and Hunger Hotline provides emergency referrals to more than 600 soup kitchens and food pantries across the city.  The hotline provides information on the hours of operation and gives travel directions to program sites.

In 2005, more than 14 million pounds of food were distributed to these programs.

Multilingual operator assistance available Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; automated assistance available 24 hours a day.

HRA Infoline
Even if you don't receive public assistance, you may still qualify for food stamps. Call the Human Resources Administration Infoline to see whether you meet income requirements. Allow a chunk of time and plenty of patience: it is a complicated and time-consuming process to find your way through the automated information system. It's possible to speak to a person Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, but the wait is very long.
