Lead Information
Lead is a toxic heavy metal found in paint, air, soil, household dust, food, drinking water, porcelain and pewter that can cause damage to the brain, red blood cells and the kidneys. Children are especially vulnerable to lead poisoning.

The City Department of Environmental Protection provides free lead-testing kits for water. DEP will send you a kit; you send water samples back to them; and they mail the results to you. DEP can also supply a list of certified water testing labs.
