Parking Violations Bureau
Several City agencies issue summonses for violations of the City's parking rules. The Parking Violations Bureau is the central office for complaints, information and payment of summonses. The easiest thing is to pay the ticket on time. The penalty for late payments is steep. You must pay with a check or money order. Where and how to send the payment are clearly explained on the back of the traffic ticket. However, if you are confused, call the PVB Help Line. Listen carefully to the recorded message that plays while you wait for an operator. The message might very well answer your question. If you think you were unfairly ticketed, you can contest the summons by submitting a plea of not guilty, either through the mail or in person at a PVB Help Center. In order to ensure a strong defense, include a written explanation and photos -- of, for instance, the illegible sign. You can get your ticket dismissed if the enforcement agent left out or incorrectly filled out any of the following information on the summons: registration expiration the license plate number and description of the vehicle the date, time and location of the violation the issuing officer's name and ID number Don't expect to pop in and out of a PVB Help Center. Lines tend to be long -- at least a 30-minute wait to pay a summons, and sometimes it can take more than an hour to contest a ticket or get the City to release a car that's been towed. At times, the wait can run to several hours. All PVB Help Centers are open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4:30 pm.
